Surrounded By Emptiness
My project was about empty spaces, burned down stores and mostly boarded up places in my neighborhood that never reopened. Some never got fixed or anything put in place to make the space look better. The empty spaces I wanted to show how in my neighborhood, that some of the areas don’t have anything in that particular space. The store that was burned down was called Dollar Tree. It was our neighborhood store and it was very convenient and sadly it was burned down. So far as for the boarded up places some of them are relocated. Some of them are just boarded up and never reopened. Some spaces are still accepting people and are still open but still are boarded up because of their reasons.
I investigated my theme through going to different areas in my neighborhood and narrowing down my focus toward the differences that I noticed in my neighborhood. I investigated my photographs by going back to the same space and taking pictures for different days and different times of the day. I was taking multiple photos to see how they would come out, if they were underexposed and overexposed.
I learned that the process was a little bit frustrating because I had to wait to take pictures because of the time of day. Also the weather because some of the photos were taken in daylight, rain and snow. Basically because of the weather some of my photos look a certain way. I learned through my process of taking pictures, how to crop and to make my photos look straight because some of my photos were crooked. Lastly I learned how my neighborhood was different vs. others.
